【摘要】:Themethoddescribedinthisstandardisbasedontheconceptthatthetotalfreeenergyatasurfaceisthesumofcontributionsfromdifferentintermolecularforces,suchasdispersion,polarandhydrogenbonding.Thereareothertechniquesthatemploythreecomponents(dispersion,polarandhydrogenbonding).Thesemethodsarefurthercomplicatedbyneedingthreetofivetestliquidsandarenotpracticalforroutinetesting.Thismethodusescontactanglesoftwoliquidstoprovidedataforthecalculationoftwocomponents,dispersion,x03B3;sd,andpolar,x03B3;sp.Dispersionandpolarcomponentdata,alongwiththetotalsolidsurfacetension,areusefulforexplainingorpredictingwettingoradhesion,orboth,ofcoatingsonpretreatments,substratesandothercoatings.Lowsolidsurfacetensionvaluesoftenareasignofcontaminationandportendpotentialwettingproblems.Highpolarcomponentsmaysignalpolarcontamination.Thereisevidenceintheliteraturethatmatchingofpolarcomponentsoftopcoatsandprimersgivesbetteradhesion.Solidsurfacetensionsofpigments,particularlythepolarcomponents,maybeusefulinunderstandingdispersionproblemsortoprovidesignalsforthecompositionofdispersantsandmillbases.However,comparisonofpigmentsmaybedifficultiftherearedifferencesintheroughnessorporosity,orboth,ofthediskspreparedfromthem.Althoughthistechniqueisveryusefulincharacterizingsurfaces,evaluatingsurfaceactiveadditivesandexplainingproblems,itisnotdesignedtobeaqualitycontrolorspecificationtest.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesaprocedureforthemeasurementofcontactanglesoftwoliquids,onepolarandtheothernonpolar,ofknownsurfacetensiononasubstrate,pigment(intheformofadisk),orcuredorairdriedcoatinginordertocalculatethesurfaceproperties(surfacetensionanditsdispersionandpolarcomponents)ofthesolid.1.2Thetotalsolidsurfacetensionrangethatcanbedeterminedusingthismethodisapproximately20to60dynes/cm.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
